How to properly care for the eye zone and what’s infinity got to do with it?

How to properly care for the eye zone and what’s infinity got to do with it?

The eyes communicate everything. And your eye zone communicates your overall health- the dark circles are saying “please get more sleep” Puffy eyes are saying “could you go easy on the salt?” There are many messages hidden in the eyes and a healthy eye zone can truly transform your entire look and show the world your natural beauty! So let’s talk eyes...

The skin around your eyes usually shows signs of aging before skin on the rest of your face. Maybe you have noticed this before—and maybe you have even wondered why!

There are several factors that contribute to signs of aging around the eyes. One factor is that your eyes do a lot of work throughout the day. If you spend a lot of time looking at a computer, your eyes can become strained and fatigued. This not only impacts your eyes, but also the skin around them, causing puffiness. Other factors that impact under eye skin include genetics, sun exposure, lifestyle choices (such as smoking and/or a poor diet), and external pollutants. All of these things may cause skin around the eyes to age prematurely.

The most common signs of eye area issues are dark circles, fine lines, and puffiness.

Do these struggles sound familiar? If so, it’s time to learn more about what makes the skin around the eye area unique when compared to the rest of your body. It is never too early to start caring about the skin under and around your eyes—and it’s never too late! That’s why we’re answering four common questions about skin care for the eye area and providing ideas for simple solutions.

Why does the skin around my eyes lose moisture faster?

The skin around your eyes does not have as many oil glands compared to the rest of your face. This is one reason why the skin around your eyes is prone to dryness, moisture loss, and even eczema. The National Eczema Association recommends knowing and avoiding triggers to avoid it, including using products that may accelerate dryness.

Today, eyelid dermatitis is becoming increasingly common and can be caused by makeup, wearing false eyelashes, allergens, and more. Factors like this also cause skin around the eyes to lose moisture quickly. Living in a dry climate and using too much hot water can also dry out your skin.

Why is the skin around my eyes more sensitive?

Because the skin around your eyes is thinner when compared to the rest of the body, it doesn’t hold or absorb moisture as well. This leads to more sensitivity and contributes to signs of aging. Wrinkles and dark circles are more prominent on this thin skin.

Why do dark circles form under my eyes?

Many factors contribute to dark undereye circles. The most common is sleep deprivation, which encourages dull skin to reveal darkened blood vessels and tissues. Oversleeping can also cause dark undereye circles. For some people, dark undereye circles are hereditary, and this condition is known as periorbital hyperpigmentation.

Age may also play a role. When collagen production is diminished, it may contribute to losing structure in skin under your eyes. This results in the dark blood vessels under your eyes becoming more prominent.

How can I improve the health of the skin around my eyes?

Did you know that you can improve the health of the skin around your eyes with simple exercises? These exercises work the muscles in and around your eyes to not only tone your skin, but improve the health of your eyes.

Figure eight

  • Choose a location 10 feet in front of you.
  • Make an imaginary figure eight with your eyes, slowly.
  • When finished, make another figure eight in the opposite direction.
  • Keep tracing the figure eights until you have completed a few minutes in each direction.

Near and far focusing

  • Place your  index finger ten inches in front of you and focus on it for about 15 seconds.
  • Next, move your focus to something further away, about 10 feet in front of you, and focus on that.
  • Complete this exercise slowly for a few minutes, moving between the two focuses.

Focus on infinity

  • Find a spot on the horizon or as far as you can see and just let your eyes stare off into the distance. Keep the gaze there for a minute or two.

Cold compresses feel refreshing and can be effective in reducing swelling and puffiness after a day of eye strain.  Simply wrap an ice cube in a clean cloth and gently press it against the under eye area. You can also apply a cloth soaked in cold water.

Moisturizing the skin around your eyes properly is another element that will keep your skin healthy. A gentle moisturizer formulated for the eye area is essential to encourage brighter, smoother, and hydrated skin.
